England Reclaim the Ashes

So after a thrilling weekend of cricket, England managed to seal victory in the fifth Test and won the Ashes series 2-1. The whole series was fantastically entertaining and a huge success for Test cricket. I have to confess that before the series started I really didn’t think England were capable of winning, despite the [...]

Enthralled by the Ashes

All attempts at getting some work done today have been thoroughly scuppered by the Ashes. England made 307- 8 on the first day, which looked like a missed opportunity to be honest. Both Strauss and Bell failed to convert 50’s into centuries. The Aussies quickly wrapped up the tail end this morning, England ending up [...]

It looks like the recent fake blood injury cheating scandal has finally been resolved and punishment meted out to the offenders. I feel like I should start this post with a bit of background for anyone one is unfamiliar with the now notorious incident. Back in April, Harlequins were playing against Leinister in the quarter finals [...]

Lightening Bolt

I was watching the Athletics World Championships on Sunday, principally to see Jessica Ennis securinggold for GB in the women’s heptathlon, but I also had the privilege to see Usain Bolt smash the men’s 100 m world recordin a stunning time of 9.58 seconds. Bolt is an absolute phenomenon, not only for his incredible speed, [...]

Ashes Fourth Test

I was very disappointed that England lost the fourth Test. The batting collapses and overall dismal display (combined with the decent weather!) meant that the Test was wrapped up on the third day, England losing by an innings and 80 runs. The nature of England’s performance annoys me more as today was the first real [...]

Ashes Third Test

Considering the rain delays, I really wasn’t surprised that the third Test rather predictably ended in a draw. Losing about a day and half due to wet weather meant that a draw seemed quite inevitable. I was actually pretty busy during the test, and I didn’t get a chance to follow play much at all, so I [...]

England Victorious in 2nd Test

England have won the second Test, beating Australia by 115 runs. Compared to the first Test in Cardiff, this match was far more interesting with much more drama. England batted first on Thursday, with Strauss and Cook getting the team off to a flying start, reaching 196 runs before Cook was dismissed on 95 runs. [...]

Ashes First Test

The first test is over, with England managing to pull off an unlikely draw due to a stirling effort by the lower order. The test started well, with England batting first, reaching 435 all out, with the tail contributing a good haul of runs. The Aussies then proceeded to totally dominate the match, giving England a [...]

Spot the ball…

Yep, it’s in the fielder’s pocket. Came across this gem of a picture whilst catching up on latest Ashes action. Ed Joyce fell victim to this odd dismissal whilst playing for Sussex against Warwickshire yesterday. As Joyce swept the ball away, the fielder took evasive action and the ball ended up in his pocket. Cricketing laws state that a catch is [...]

Summer of Sport Continues

Two of the major sporting events this summer are over - the British and Irish Lions have finished their tour of South Africa, and Wimbledon is done for another year. Both events were ultimately disappointing for the Brits. Despite playing some fantastic rugby, the Lions lostthe test series 2-1 to the Boks. Rugby is one of sports closest to [...]
