I found some very interesting photos of some glass sculptures depicting different viruses and bacteria in an article on the Telegraph website. The artist Luke Jerram worked closely with virologists to accurately represent various bacteria and viruses to challenge public perceptions about what these vectors for human illnesses actual look like. I love when people blend science and art together, and I think the sculptures look amazing. I’ve included a couple below - SARS and E-Coli. The sculptures can be seen in London’s Smithfield Gallery between 21st September – 3rd October. More details can be found on the artists webpage – www.lukejerram.com

I saw this featured on the WordPress introduction page and it sounded fascinating – the models are absolutely beautiful, it’s strange to think how something that is so scary to a lot of us can look so fragile and intriguing, at the same time! Thanks for posting this =)
The second one gives me nightmares.

Thank you for posting this!
Beautiful and unsettling, makes for the best kind of art.
I’d love to have one of those sculptures in my home.
Beautiful pictures of amazing glass. Thanks for sharing about this.
Ha! This is a great product man! I feel like these glass forms could translate through its transperency…meaning that these viruses that get pumped up by news resources and the overexageration of the story is as breakable as the glass composition. Overall really impressive forms.
beautiful & dangerous…
very amazing and intricate
@michaelchernoff – I really like your take on the artwork. Making the models out of glass actually reflects what the viruses and bacteria actually look like in real life – whilst the media often portray them in bright colours, they are in fact transparent, making glass perfect material to sculpture them with.
